I was recently asked by Central High School to set a piece of choreography for one of the dance classes. I haven’t choreographed in a while and I had been itching to make a fun piece. Lately my days have been consumed by making new music, so this was a perfect time for another creative outlet. It was such a blast! Going back to high school is always interesting and such a fun reminder of how much I’ve changed. I looked at the world so differently then and walking in those halls I was taken back to the days when everything was so embarrassing! The dancers were so afraid to shake their hips or do any movement that was unusual to them and would giggle and become shy and quiet. I found myself constantly screaming, “ Let it go!”. Now I see what all my mentors were yelling at me about! LOL! Ahhh, the insecurities were so high! (maybe that’s why its called “high” school:D) I’m so glad I’m over that unwarranted nonsense! :)
I’ve often heard that teaching is such a joy and I never fully understood that until I started. The dancers were so full of life and energy and I was happy to be there pushing them a little more out of their comfort zones and maybe helping them to learn something new about themselves. I hope they all find happiness and live to their full potential with an open mind, beautiful heart and fearless attitude. And of course, they better rock my moves! HA HA!
Hugs and Love,
Moni-k:)
